In São Paulo, yesterday, after being answering (most silly) questions for almost two hours, Joe Sacco suddenly declared,
'I love Brazil!', and smiled.
How patient! The newspaper Folha de S.Paulo rushed to name him 'the first comics journalist'.
Funny thing, Brazilians enjoy the comics and forget about the ideas. There was no question about the ideas in his new book, but questions about how he decides on the place to go, if he uses cameras... One of the reporters from the paper even had the 'brilliant' idea of asking,' Is it precise to name a certain area in Rio de Janeiro as 'Gaza Strip'?
'It's natural that people make such associations.', Mr. Sacco replied.
Joe Sacco went through all that keeping up his strength. And I wondered, 'What would he compare that demanding meeting with?'
None of the Folha de S.Paulo's journalists addressed Joe in English.
The autograph session that was to follow the long interview was declared cancelled in the eleventh hour.
Much of the discourse all around is power-oriented. Our texts, rather, will be appreciated by those brave enough to leave the good life of obedience in order to grow and take risks for the benefit of a multitude of others. Welcome! PORTUGUÊS acesse "apresentação do blog" abaixo
