INTERNET USED BY PRIZE-WINNER AUTHOR TO CIRCUMVENT CENSORSHIP IN BRAZIL
Domingos Pellegrini wrote about his late friend, Paulo Leminski. The work has been condemned by the widow and heirs (two daughters). However, once every condition related to editing, cutting and so forth set by the three women were met, they would give green light to publication.

The Pellegrini's book we talk about here is a new one. There is another biography of Leminski, by a different author, also being censored; this one is a reedition.
But then... why not sharing the copyright? The women claimed also profits from the book sales.
The author vehemently denied the intrusion in his writing, went editor shopping to face demands of family authorization from publishers. All this made up his mind. Pellegrini declared to the press he hadn't fight dictatorship to end up passively submitted to censorhip. Next, he sent 1,800 emails with the biograph attached, with full permision of use, and blessing further diffusion.
In addition, he sent a note on his decision, by email, to the Brazilian Highest Court, which is expected to eventually settle the dispute involving major constitutional rights. When that is to happen nobody can tell. "Mensalão" still demands attention from that Court.
Pellegrini has been granted major literature prizes, several times.
The book, in Brazilian Portuguese, is only 160-page long.

We have downloaded the book ourselves not long ago and so we have not read it yet.
Despite unable to give an opinion on the work right now, we are 100 percent supportive of Pellegrini. Freedom cannot depend on subjective judgments regarding content per si, style, quality. Along with the broad access to the book comes implicit the invitation to all to engage in criticism. And also to follow in Pellegrini wise steps, taking the most of the Internet.
