What do you think of the Kate Middleton photo scandal?
Should tabloids have more respect for Duchess of Cambridge? Or is she just another celebrity with topless photos?

The scandal has fed itself for two conditions were - as usually - present once again. The first, virtually every human being reacts emotionally to unexpected chalenges. And, of course, there are human beings on both sides: there is the royal couple, and its dinasty, on one side, and there is the vast audience around the world on the other. The second condition, the calculated exacerbation of something that would rather draw little or no attention at all. Easy. Scandal, there we go!

Considering the questions proposed, I have answered the first to a great deal. Putting it a little different, there was a scandal because the British royalty jumped into legal action and formally reacted by expressing emotions. And the press did what is normally does. Remember? "Oh, my God!"

So, do we disagree with the British monarchy response? Yes. The couple is very sad, etc. etc. was fuel. It should have allowed emotion to cool down. And fast. But this has proved to be an enormous challenge even for an institution suppossed to be highly prepared as very few others. An official note had, no doubt, to address the 'incident', but just giving straighforward information. Such as: Indeed the Duke and etc were then in a private residence etc and the photos were taken very far away.
And could add a touch of irony: It is very hot in France now for most people.
Period.

The monarchy should have reckoned that Kate was with her husband and with him only. Rather, there was exarcebation also on the royal part. It is not nice nor comfortable to see a more private moment get public. But it is also true it was not vested with elements for a serious scandal. On the contrary, the couple that poses as in love while sporting clothes is really in love. Great. More. Kate is in a rare shape, and cannot feel ashamed for the exposition of her body in an important sense. Presently, shame is to be spotted in a bikini showing even minor defects, which are 'intolerable'.

Second question. A double one. To begin with, what does it mean to 'have more respect'? Tabloids and respect make up an oxymoron; no news here at all. Second, she is definitely working so hard not to be 'just another celebrity'. We must realize that the job of the press was just to sell this 'level playing field'. Unfortunately, Kate officially reacted just like one more celebrity, while she (her official voices) thought she was proving the opposite.

Going against the French and European laws in order to find out the photographer was not in line with dignity either.

Folha de S.Paulo, a major Brazilian newspaper based in São Paulo, is still showing the photos - including the inner 'scandalous' pages of Closer magazine - on the web, while European publications have stopped doing so, in face of French court's ruling. Apparently, there was not even a transfer of copyrights. The newspaper just mirrors those images, on the grounds of reporting.

Damage control here has totally failed. It is upgrading damage with control; impossible control.

At this point, as things have grown worse due to the wrong response, I would consider calling Mario Testino for an official nudebook. Money? Welcome. For the four institutions Kate directly supports.

Kate is an art historian. Must thus remember nude is never scandalous when properly practiced. And so was the case in France. By finally adopting this perspective, she will turn the tide. And grow to be a different celebrity.
