The second most powerful person in Brazil delivers speech that becomes illustration of the lousy education in the country

The president of Petrobrás delivered a Portuguese as bad as Luis Inácio Lula's, former president of the country, in his first mandate. Ms. Maria das Graças Foster was the 'keynote speaker' at a Fiesp International Meeting on Energy, São Paulo, on Aug 07. The event attracted more than a thousand people.

No one seemed to care about her poor skills with the mother language. I am afraid that otherwise astonishing deficiency has become a way of gaining popularity and sympathy in Brazil, for it is translated as humbleness. This is in line with the evidence that anti-intellectualism pervades Brazilian culture. An attendee remarked, 'Her story is very beautiful.' The most serious mistakes are listed here. One of them, actually, refers to ineptitude in handling Basic English.
